SPEAKING

I enjoy speaking whenever I get the chance! Including research talks, I have experience speaking at design and innovation conferences, healthcare/academic centers, federal agencies, healthcare conferences, and at internal industry events. If you are interested reaching out for a speaking engagement, please email me at Dylan.doyle@colorado.edu

My talks focus on the following themes:

  1. Moderating Grief: Designing Algorithms for Behavioral Health Support in Online Communities

In this talk, I explore the role of AI and natural language processing (NLP) in supporting grief support within social media platforms.

I discuss how AI can be harnessed to strike a balance between protecting users from distressing content while allowing others to express their grief authentically. I present technical and policy solutions that address the unique challenges of diverse grief needs in public, anonymous, and digital spaces.

Attendees will leave with insights into how AI can support vulnerable populations in healthcare settings, while addressing ethical concerns related to mental health, privacy, and digital grief.

  2. Designing AI Tools for End-of-Life Care: Personal Data and Compassionate Planning

This talk explores the integration of AI and digital tools in the sensitive domain of end-of-life care, focusing on value-based approaches to advance care planning. The talk will highlight how collaborative design processes with patients and healthcare professionals can produce tools that reflect the complexities of human values in healthcare. Attendees will gain insights into how AI can enhance patient agency, facilitate meaningful decision-making, and support compassionate end-of-life care.

This presentation is ideal for healthcare professionals, designers, and technologists interested in ethical AI implementation in healthcare, particularly in palliative and end-of-life care contexts.

  3. Conversational AI and the Afterlife: Designing Ethical Griefbots for Healthcare and Beyond

As AI continues to reshape healthcare, a new frontier is emerging: the role of conversational AI in “impersonating” the voice, image, and even memory of deceased loved ones. This talk explores the intersection of AI, healthcare, and the concept of the afterlife, focusing on how emerging technologies are transforming how we think about death, memory, and legacy.

Drawing on current research and case studies, I discuss the ethical, cultural, and technical challenges of designing AI tools that handle sensitive end-of-life data and support legacy planning. The talk will also cover emerging tools such as digital avatars, conversational agents that preserve a person’s voice, and virtual memorial spaces, reflecting on the evolving role of AI in how we remember and interact with those who have passed.

Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the implications of AI for afterlife planning, the future of digital legacies in healthcare, and the potential for AI to provide comfort, continuity, and meaning in the face of death. This session is designed for healthcare professionals, AI researchers, and technologists interested in the ethical design of end-of-life technologies.
